PIPILE PROJECT
Across the globe, and even here in Canada, countless production line workers are forced to relieve themselves while standing; many wear diapers to work and intentionally dehydrate themselves to avoid the urge to urinate. These individuals endure physical suffering and discomfort, coupled with constant anxiety regarding their health and job security—a precarious situation that leads to severe medical issues.
La Pipile toilet cabins are designed to be easily relocated to strategic points within a factory, ensuring better accessibility for workers. By drastically reducing travel time to restrooms, employees can meet their basic needs with dignity, while the productivity loss feared by employers is significantly mitigated.
Technically, the cabin is energy-independent. Urine is separated at the source and interacts with microbial fuel cells (bacteria-based batteries), generating enough autonomous electricity to power the lighting and hand dryers.
Movable. Self-sufficient. Ergonomic. Innovative.
This project was developed over the two years of my Master’s degree at Studio Montréal. Entirely conceived and executed by myself, it was awarded an exhibition spot at "Design l'expo" in France and was shortlisted for Dubai Design Week.
